The ISCAR 5550540 is a WNMG432WG-style solid carbide turning insert in the IC5005 manufacturer grade, designed for precision turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The insert features a CVD-applied TiCN/Al2O3/TiN multilayer coating that provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With an 80-degree trigon shape, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. The WG chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation. Machinists and toolroom operators install this insert as part of an Isoturn toolholding system.
This insert is intended for use on turning centers running cast iron, hardened steels, and steel workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes H, K, and P. The WNMG432WG geometry is a standard industry configuration and mounts using clamp and pin holding methods, making it compatible with a wide range of WNMG-style toolholders. Typical applications include external diameter turning, facing, and contouring operations where a trigon insert profile provides adequate clearance and edge strength. Maximum depth of cut is 3.50 mm (0.1378 inches).
Designed for use with WNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert holding, within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Compatible with toolholders dimensioned for a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle WNMG insert. Suitable for ISO workpiece material codes H, K, and P.
This insert is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, disengage the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, non-rotating state. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver to release the clamp and pin holding mechanism without damaging the insert seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the new insert, and verify the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
