The ISCAR 5550503 is a solid carbide VNMG turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries an IC807 manufacturer grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, offering strong resistance to heat and wear during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V code) with a neutral 0-degree relief angle and an NF chip breaker geometry suited for finishing passes. With a 0.0079-inch corner radius and a 0.2815-inch inscribed circle, this insert is appropriate for light to moderate material removal across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed ISCAR tooling technicians and CNC machinists are the primary installers and users.
The 5550503 is rated for use on workpiece material categories M, P, and S, covering stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. Its positive rake geometry and NF chip breaker make it well suited for finishing applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. It is part of the Isoturn series, which is designed for general external and facing turning operations in production machining environments. This insert is held in the toolholder by clamp and pin method, which is standard for VNMG-style seats.
Designed for use in VNMG-style turning toolholders that accept clamp and pin retention. Suitable for machining workpiece material categories M (stainless steel), P (carbon and alloy steels), and S (superalloys and titanium alloys) as designated by ISO material group codes.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, power down the machine spindle completely and verify the turret or toolpost is at a safe index position. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using a calibrated torque driver. Inspect the insert seat and shim for damage or debris before seating a new insert, as a contaminated pocket will affect runout and surface finish.
