The ISCAR 5550492 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO code TPUN 160308 and ANSI code TPU 322, manufactured under the ISCARMILL series with grade IC5005. The insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, three neutral-hand cutting edges, and a positive rake geometry. The multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN delivers wear resistance suited to high-output milling operations. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.5984 inches and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is designed for productive metal removal on steel, cast iron, and hard materials in milling applications handled by machinists and tooling technicians.
This insert is intended for use in face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling applications targeting steel, cast iron, and hard materials in both production and job-shop environments. The flat-top chip breaker design and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with ISCARMILL toolholders that accept TPU-style inserts. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and is well suited to medium-to-heavy milling passes on ferrous workpieces. It is a single-sided insert, meaning each insert provides three usable cutting edges before replacement.
Designed for use in ISCARMILL series milling toolholders accepting TPU-style inserts with an inscribed circle of 0.3748 inches and a thickness of 0.1250 inches. Primary workpiece material codes are P (Steel), K (Cast Iron), and H (Hard Material).
Installation and indexing of milling inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before tightening the clamp; inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris that could affect seating geometry. Do not exceed the rated depth of cut for the insert grade and workpiece material combination. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw.
