The ISCAR 5550488 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPMT322 geometry, grade IC807, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with an 11-degree relief angle and a positive rake configuration. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, the IC807 grade offers strong resistance to heat and wear. At 0.6496 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert is sized for moderate to finishing-depth cuts up to 0.472 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Isoturn toolholders.
The 5550488 is suited for turning operations across a range of workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), and superalloys (S), as well as cast iron (K) and hardened materials (H). It is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series, which covers a broad range of turning applications in both production and job-shop environments. The T chip breaker geometry helps manage chip flow during continuous turning cuts. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in Isoturn series toolholders accepting TPMT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and screw size before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and seat the insert fully in the pocket before torquing. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for debris or damage each time an insert is indexed or replaced.
