The ISCAR 5550457 is a TNMG322GN-style triangular turning insert manufactured in solid carbide with a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. Carrying the IC8250 manufacturer grade, this insert is engineered for external and internal turning operations where wear resistance and edge stability are critical. It features a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.375 inches), a 1/32-inch corner radius (0.031 inches), and a 1/8-inch insert thickness (0.125 inches). The GN chip breaker geometry is suited for controlled chip evacuation across a range of cutting conditions. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible TNMG-style toolholders on manual and CNC lathes.
This insert is appropriate for turning applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where a multilayer-coated carbide grade is specified. The IC8250 PVD-coated grade performs well in finish to semi-finish turning at moderate to high cutting speeds. The TNMG insert style is held by clamp and pin, making it compatible with standard TNMG-accepting toolholders used in production and job-shop turning environments. Typical applications include external diameter turning, facing, and light profiling on CNC and manual lathes.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TNMG322GN-style insert seats in standard TNMG clamp-and-pin toolholders. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications against insert dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp and pin. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to prevent premature edge failure.
