The ISCAR 5550427 is a solid carbide SNMG-style turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for single-point external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The insert carries an IC807 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which supports higher cutting speeds and improved wear resistance in interrupted and continuous cuts. Key geometry specs include a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/4-inch insert thickness, a 3/64-inch corner radius, a 90-degree square insert shape, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.315 inches. It is held by clamp and pin and features an NR chip breaker designation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert during tooling setup or insert rotation cycles.
This insert is suited for turning operations on a range of workpiece materials including steels (P), stainless steels (M), and superalloys (S), as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes P, M, and S. The Isoturn series is commonly applied in both roughing and semi-finishing passes in production shop environments. The SNMG643 ISO geometry and NR chip breaker combination make it a practical choice for general-purpose turning where controlled chip formation and consistent tool life are priorities. It conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Designed for use in SNMG-style insert toolholders that accept a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick square insert with a 0.313-inch hole diameter. Compatible with workpiece material groups P, M, and S per ISO classification.
Insert rotation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the correct torque driver for the clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for the insert grade and workpiece material combination in use.
