Product Description

The ISCAR 5550343 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Isoturn KNMX series, designed for high-performance material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries ISCAR grade IC807, a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating that supports both wear resistance and edge toughness. The parallelogram-shaped KNMX insert features a positive rake geometry, a 55-degree included angle, and a 7-degree relief angle. Two usable cutting edges per insert reduce tooling cost per edge in production environments. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tooling specialists are the primary users of this insert class.

This insert is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S — meaning it can be applied across hardened materials, cast iron, stainless and general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys (HRSA). It is suited for profiling and general turning operations in both roughing and finishing passes where a maximum depth of cut up to 0.2590 inches is required. The RP chipbreaker geometry helps manage chip flow across this broad material range. The insert conforms to the KNMX 160405-RP standard and ISO 13399.

Key Features

  • IC807 submicron carbide grade with PVD TiAlN and TiN coating for extended tool life
  • Positive rake, parallelogram (KNMX) geometry with 55-degree included angle and 7-degree relief angle
  • RP chipbreaker supports chip control across universal workpiece materials
  • Two cutting edges per insert for reduced cost-per-edge in production runs
  • Clamp and pin holding method for secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders
  • Conforms to KNMX 160405-RP standard and ISO 13399 for tooling data interchange

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-specification replacement insert conforming to the KNMX 160405-RP standard. Compatible with KNMX-style toolholders and insert seats designed for a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, right-hand cutting orientation. Verify toolholder seating geometry and clamping method before installation.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any insert change. Use the appropriate torquing tool for the clamping screw or pin as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not use substitutes that could damage the seating surface. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm cutting edge orientation and depth-of-cut settings in the control before resuming operation.
