The ISCAR 5550299 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT style, designed for use in CNC and manual turning operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. This insert carries the IC807 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating that provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The 55-degree diamond insert shape delivers a sharp cutting geometry with a positive rake angle and a 7-degree relief angle. The SM chip breaker promotes efficient chip evacuation across multiple material groups. The corner radius measures 0.0079 inches and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.25 inches, making this a compact, precise insert for finish and semi-finish turning work.
This insert is suited for turning applications across primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and superalloys. It is used in production turning environments on CNC lathes by machinists and tooling specialists. The Isoturn series designation indicates compatibility with ISCAR Isoturn toolholders designed for DCMT-style inserts. The screw-clamp holding method provides secure seating and repeatable indexing. Maximum depth of cut is 2.00 mm (0.0787 inches), placing this insert in finish to light semi-finish turning applications.
Designed for use with ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting DCMT-style inserts. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S per ISCAR grade and chip breaker designation. Conforms to ISO 13399 insert data standards.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage or insert cracking. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for screw replacement intervals to maintain clamping integrity.
