The ISCAR 5550289 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT 3-2-PF style, designed for use in CNC turning operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. This insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C) with a positive rake geometry and a PF chip breaker configuration. It is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating, grade IC807, made from submicron carbide substrate. The corner radius is 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch), and the insert measures 9.5 mm (0.374 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. It is held in place by a screw-type clamping method and conforms to ISO 13399 standards.
This insert is intended for use in the Isoturn series toolholders on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is suited for both roughing and finishing passes depending on feed rate and depth of cut selection. Primary workpiece material codes covered include H, K, M, P, and S, representing hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Maximum depth of cut is 3.50 mm (0.1378 inches). The insert is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop turning environments.

Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Always confirm depth-of-cut and feed parameters are within the limits for this insert geometry before resuming cutting operations.
