The ISCAR 5550258 is a CNMG543TF IC8250 grade indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating over a solid carbide substrate, giving it high wear resistance with adequate toughness for steel and stainless steel workpieces. The insert measures 15.9 mm (0.626 inches) in length with a 5/8 inch (0.6248 inch) inscribed circle and a 3/64 inch (0.0472 inch) corner radius. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and negative side clearance make it well suited for medium to heavy stock removal. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of the ISCAR Isoturn toolholder system.
This insert is intended for roughing and medium machining passes on steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpieces, with primary application in P-category materials and secondary application in M-category materials. The TF chip breaker geometry helps control chip flow during interrupted and continuous cuts at elevated feed rates. The maximum depth of cut is 6.00 mm (0.2362 inches), making it appropriate for moderate-to-aggressive turning passes in production and job-shop environments. It is held in the toolholder via clamp or pin-lock methods, both common configurations in standard CNMG-style turning blocks.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn system. ANSI insert code CNMG543 and ISO insert code CNMG160612 apply. Compatible toolholders accept a 1/4 inch hole diameter and negative-clearance CNMG geometry inserts held by clamp or pin-lock methods.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and screw type specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamp or pin-lock — do not overtighten by hand or with unrated tools. Inspect the toolholder seat and shim for damage before seating a new insert, as a damaged pocket will affect runout and insert life.
