The ISCAR 5550226 is a CCMT432WG-geometry solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC8250 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which builds wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code C) provides two usable cutting edges. A positive rake geometry and WG chip breaker promote smooth chip flow and reduced cutting forces. This insert is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
The 5550226 is suited for turning steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpiece materials, making it appropriate for general-purpose turning, facing, and profiling applications. The WG chip breaker is optimized for medium-to-light depths of cut, and the insert fits into standard CCMT-style toolholders used across a wide range of CNC turning centers. The Isoturn series designation indicates compatibility with ISCAR Isoturn toolholder systems. Typical applications include shaft turning, diameter reduction passes, and finishing passes on steel and stainless components.
Designed for use with CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders in the ISCAR Isoturn series. Fits toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle CCMT insert with a 0.2165-inch hole diameter. Suitable for ISO P (steel) and ISO M (stainless steel) workpiece materials per ISO 13399 classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert body. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating the new insert.
