The ISCAR 5550218 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a dual-layer TiAlN and TiN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a 0.4 mm (0.0157 inch) corner radius. A 7-degree relief angle and the PF chip breaker geometry support controlled chip formation during finishing and light roughing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert type.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is engineered for turning applications across multiple workpiece material groups including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), hardened materials (H), and superalloys (S). It is suited for external and internal turning operations where a consistent surface finish and reliable chip control are required. The CCMT insert style with tolerance code M and clearance code C makes it a standard fit for a wide variety of compatible toolholders that accept this industry-common insert geometry. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for toolholders accepting CCMT-style inserts with an 80-degree diamond shape, tolerance code M, clearance code C, and a 0.173 inch hole diameter. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
