The ISCAR 5550215 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, this insert features a TiAlN and TiN dual-layer PVD coating applied over a submicron carbide substrate in manufacturer grade IC807. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry with a positive rake angle and a 7-degree relief clearance. The SM chip breaker is engineered for controlled chip formation across a broad range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators rely on this insert for consistent tool life in medium to finish turning applications.
The 5550215 is suited for universal turning applications across multiple workpiece material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It fits into the Isoturn series toolholding system and is appropriate for both roughing at shallow depths and finish turning passes where dimensional accuracy is critical. This insert is commonly deployed in job shop, production machining, and maintenance-repair environments.
Designed for use with ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting CCMT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as indicated by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method without overtightening the insert seat. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify tool offset compensation in the machine controller after each insert index to maintain dimensional accuracy.
