The ISCAR 5550214 is a solid carbide turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Conforming to ISO code CCMT 3-0-PF, this insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle. The IC807 grade substrate features a PVD-applied TiN and TiAlN multilayer coating that resists heat and wear across a wide range of workpiece materials. The chip breaker designation PF is engineered for controlled chip formation during finishing passes. The insert is secured via screw clamping and is manufactured to tolerance code M with clearance code C.
This insert is suited for universal application across workpiece material groups including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), heat-resistant superalloys (S), and hardened materials (H), as defined by ISO material codes. It is appropriate for residential shop, light industrial, and heavy production environments where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. Machinists and toolroom operators working on tight-tolerance components will find the PF chip breaker geometry effective during light to moderate finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.118 inches (3.00 mm).
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting CCMT style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Confirmed ISO code: CCMT 3-0-PF.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Confirm insert seating and shim condition before resuming cuts.
