The ISCAR 5540014 is a solid carbide uncoated turning insert in the VCGT style, part of the Isoturn series. It features a 35-degree diamond shape (V insert shape code) with a positive rake geometry and an AS chip breaker, making it suitable for light to medium turning operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert carries manufacturer grade IC20, an uncoated solid carbide substrate intended for applications where coating is not required or where sharp edges are critical. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, the insert length is 0.437 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches. Installation is performed by a licensed machinist or toolroom technician using a screw-clamp holding method.
This insert is designed for use in CNC and manual turning centers where precise, positive-rake cutting action is needed. The AS chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and light roughing operations. The universal primary workpiece material designation covers ISO material groups H, K, M, N, and S, meaning it is applicable across hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant super alloys. Maximum depth of cut is 2.5 mm (0.098 inches). It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in VCGT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders compatible with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, 0.125-inch thick diamond insert with a C clearance angle and G tolerance class per ISO 13399 standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not over-torque. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
