This shim carries a negative rake geometry and accommodates both left-hand and right-hand cutting directions. It is sized for a 0.5-inch (1/2 inch) inscribed circle, matching diamond-shaped inserts used in external turning operations. Installation requires no special tooling beyond standard insert-change procedures. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with PDJNR/L-style toolholders will find this a direct-fit replacement shim.
The 5520066 is intended for use in external turning applications on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It is compatible with a specific range of PDJNR/L and DDUNR/L toolholder bodies, as well as select S32T and S40U shank-style holders. The TDN shim style positions a diamond-shaped insert at the correct seating depth for negative-rake cutting. Shim replacement is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians during routine insert changes or after visible pocket-floor damage is noted. Power down or disengage the spindle and ensure the machine is in a safe lockout state before accessing the toolholder pocket. Seat the shim flat in the pocket before placing the insert; verify there is no debris or burring on the pocket floor that would prevent full contact. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping sequence for the insert screw to avoid shim displacement during cutting.
