The ISCAR 5510089 is a CPGT2-0SM solid carbide turning insert with an IC907 manufacturer grade, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating that extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Key cutting geometry includes an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a positive rake angle, and an 11-degree relief angle (clearance code P). The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, insert length is 0.248 inches (6.30 mm), and insert thickness is 0.0938 inches. The SM chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and light roughing passes.
This insert is part of the Isoturn series and is intended for use on turning centers where screw-held inserts with positive geometry are required. Primary workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), high-temperature alloys and hardened materials (H, S), and additional ISO material groups K and N. The ISO code designation is CPGT21.50.5 per ISO 13399 standards. This insert is appropriate for shops performing light to medium material removal on tight-tolerance turned components, and is typically installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct fit for toolholders accepting CPGT-style screw-held turning inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and 0.1102-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder seat geometry and screw torque specifications against the toolholder manufacturer documentation before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling specialists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to secure the insert — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the toolholder seat and chip pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
