The ISCAR 5509981 is a replaceable tip carbide drill designed for precision hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Built on the FCP series platform, this drill features a solid carbide tip with an IC908 submicron grade substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The 0.906-inch (29/32 inch) cutting diameter and 140-degree drill point angle with web thinning allow for efficient chip evacuation and reduced thrust force. The flat-bottom point style and slow spiral flute geometry make it well suited for controlled, stable drilling in a range of ferrous materials. Installation requires a compatible FCP series drill body with an ISO Number FCP 230 seat size 23 interface.
This tip is intended for use in CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and similar machine tool platforms where replaceable tip drill systems reduce downtime versus solid drill regrinding. Primary workpiece materials include steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). Secondary applications cover stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO codes M, S, and H). The twist-style insert holding method locks the tip securely into the compatible shank body without adhesives or additional fasteners.

Replaceable tip drills of this type are installed and removed by a licensed machinist or tooling technician using the manufacturer-specified wrench or key for the twist-lock interface. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before changing the tip. Ensure the seating surfaces on both the tip and the shank body are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the tip. Do not force the tip beyond its designed engagement stops, as carbide tips are brittle and susceptible to fracture under improper installation torque.
