The ISCAR 5509970 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in steel, cast iron, and related ferrous materials. Part of the FCP series, this tip features a solid carbide construction with an IC908 grade submicron substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN finish that supports high cutting speeds and extended tool life. The drill tip measures 0.689 inches in cutting diameter with a functional length of 0.232 inches and carries a 140-degree included angle at the drill point. Web thinning is applied at the tip to reduce thrust and improve centering. It is installed by licensed machinists and tooling technicians in CNC or manual drilling operations.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling operations in production environments where tool change time must be minimized without sacrificing dimensional accuracy. Primary workpiece materials include steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). Secondary applications cover stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes M, S, and H). The flat-bottom style and slow spiral flute geometry make this tip appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth drilling passes. The FCP series tip system uses a twist-style insert holding method for repeatable tip seating and runout control.
Designed as a replaceable tip for ISCAR FCP series drill bodies using insert seat size 17, ISO number FCP 175. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials per ISO material classification codes P, K, M, S, and H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before replacing the tip, ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or clamping key specified for FCP series bodies to seat the tip securely and achieve proper runout. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the IC908 grade and TiAlN coating when first running a new tip.
