The ISCAR 5509918 is a solid carbide turning insert in the Heliturn series, designed for external and internal turning operations on stainless steel and other ISO M-group workpiece materials. This insert carries ANSI code CNMX453 and ISO code CNMX120712, featuring an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative side clearance and a wiper edge for improved surface finish. The IC6025 grade uses a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, delivering a balance of high wear resistance and toughness suited to roughing and medium machining passes. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert as a direct toolholder-mount component in production and job-shop environments.
The 5509918 is intended for stainless steel turning applications where tool life and edge stability under interrupted or continuous cuts are priorities. The M4MW chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations, handling a maximum depth of cut of 0.2362 inches (6.00 mm). The negative rake geometry and clamp-or-pin holding method suit high-feed setups where insert security is critical. This insert is appropriate for both wet and dry cutting conditions typical in precision turning of ISO M-category materials including austenitic stainless grades.
Designed for use in Heliturn-series toolholders accepting CNMX453 (ISO CNMX120712) inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and clamp or pin clamping. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct clamp torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specification and ensure the pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before placing the insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the insert grade and geometry combination.
