The ISCAR 5509503 is a DCMT-style turning insert from the Isoturn series, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a 7-degree relief angle and a positive rake geometry, promoting clean chip flow and reduced cutting forces. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN and Titanium Nitride (TiN) via a PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear performance across a range of workpiece materials. A 0.0315-inch corner radius and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1180 inches make it suitable for finishing and light semi-finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers of this consumable tooling component.
The 5509503 is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, with ISO material codes M, P, and S, covering stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It fits into standard DCMT toolholders used in residential shop and industrial production turning environments. The Isoturn series targets consistent, repeatable performance in high-volume turning applications where insert changeover speed and cutting stability are priorities. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation during light to medium turning cuts.

Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or turning center operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the toolholder pocket before torquing the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
