The ISCAR 5509499 is a DCMT-style solid carbide turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes. It carries an IC830 grade designation and is coated with AlTiN and TiN via a PVD process for extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch and the corner radius is 1/64 inch. Screw-on holding method ensures secure, repeatable indexing at the turret.
This insert is designed primarily for machining superalloys and is classified under ISO material codes M, P, and S. The PF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow during light to moderate material removal. Typical applications include turning exotic alloys, stainless steels, and other difficult-to-machine materials on production or job-shop lathes. The Isoturn series is a standard product line for external and internal turning in precision machining environments. Installation and indexing are performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians following established insert replacement procedures.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for Isoturn series toolholders accepting DCMT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, clearance code C, and tolerance code M.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked out per site lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque screwdriver or hex key specified for the toolholder to seat the clamping screw without stripping the insert pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Dispose of spent inserts in accordance with local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
