The ISCAR 5509470 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Part of the ICM series, this tip features a 0.303-inch cutting diameter and a 140-degree drill point angle with a thinned web point geometry. The TiAlN coating is applied via PVD process and is classified under manufacturer grade IC908 with a submicron material grade. It is installed by machining professionals and toolroom technicians working with precision drilling applications where insert-style tooling systems are used. The T-Land style and slow spiral flute configuration support controlled chip evacuation and edge stability during cutting operations.
This drill tip is engineered for primary use in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, covering ISO material codes M and S. It also performs in secondary applications involving steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H). The insert seat size is 7, and the tip mounts via a twist-style holding method. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in aerospace, medical, and energy sector components where tool life and dimensional consistency are critical.
Designed for use with ICM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 7 and twist-style tip retention, per ISO number ICM 077. Consult the ISCAR ICM series body compatibility chart to confirm proper body-to-tip pairing before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate ISCAR ICM torque wrench or key specified for the tool body. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine power is locked out before seating or removing the drill tip. Inspect the insert seat and mating surfaces for chips or debris before securing the tip to maintain runout tolerances. Do not use impact tools or substitute wrenches when engaging the twist-lock retention mechanism.
