The ISCAR 5509364 is a WNMG431PP IC6015 grade solid carbide turning insert engineered for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers wear resistance, thermal barrier protection, and surface lubricity across a range of cutting conditions. With an 80-degree trigon (W) insert shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius, this insert is suited to medium-duty turning where edge sharpness and coating durability are priorities. It belongs to ISCARs Isoturn series and carries a PP chip breaker geometry. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for turning stainless steel and other ISO M-category workpiece materials, including austenitic and ferritic stainless alloys where built-up edge and heat generation are common challenges. The IC6015 grade with its CVD multilayer coating is optimized for semi-finishing to medium roughing passes at moderate to high cutting speeds. The PP chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation in these materials. The insert fits standard WNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding methods, making it compatible with a broad range of turret and gang tool setups on production and job-shop lathes.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement insert for WNMG431 toolholders using clamp and pin clamping methods within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against ISCAR Isoturn toolholder documentation for the WNMG insert style.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, spindle off, and axis motion disabled before any insert change. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or damage before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Verify insert seating and clamp engagement before resuming cutting operations.
