The ISCAR 5509298 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICP series, designed for high-productivity drilling in steel and a broad range of secondary workpiece materials. Carrying the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers heat and wear resistance suited to demanding cutting conditions. The tip geometry features a 140-degree included angle, a thinned web point, and a honed cutting edge to reduce entry force and improve centering. With a cutting diameter of 0.236 inches and a functional length of 0.157 inches, it fits ICP-style replaceable-tip drill bodies used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in both production and maintenance environments.
The 5509298 is engineered primarily for drilling steel and is rated for secondary workpiece materials including stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is well suited to CNC machining centers and turning centers where repeatable hole quality and quick tip changeover matter. The slow spiral flute geometry aids chip evacuation in tougher alloys, and the insert is held in the drill body via a twist-lock method consistent with the ICP platform. This insert ships individually and carries a minimum order quantity of 2 units.
Designed for use with ICP-series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting an insert seat size 6, ISO number ICP 060. Confirm drill body insert seat size and series designation before ordering.
Replaceable tip drill inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist following the drill body manufacturer torque and seating procedures. Clean and inspect the insert pocket and coolant ports before seating the new tip. Do not force the insert; confirm alignment with the twist-lock mechanism before applying final clamping torque. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is removed from the spindle or secured in a tool holder fixture before performing any tip change.
