The ISCAR 5509175 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the ICP series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The tip carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which extends tool life in abrasive and heat-generating cuts. It features a 140-degree included point angle with web thinning and a honed cutting edge geometry, both of which reduce thrust force and improve centering at entry. The cutting diameter is 0.976 inches, the functional length is 0.399 inches, and the overall projection height is 0.551 inches. Two slow-spiral flutes provide controlled chip evacuation. The tip mates to compatible ICP-series drill bodies using a twist-lock insert holding method.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. It is also rated for stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. Typical applications include production drilling on CNC machining centers and turning centers where fast tip changes between operations reduce downtime. The ICP series design allows the carbide tip to be swapped without removing the drill body from the spindle, making it practical for high-mix shop environments running varied material schedules.
Designed for use with compatible ICP-series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 24. ISO number reference is ICP 248. Verify body series and seat size before ordering a replacement tip.
Replaceable tip drills in this series are installed by toolroom technicians or machinists on CNC equipment. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the carbide tip. Use the correct torque key or wrench specified by the drill body manufacturer for the twist-lock interface — do not use substitutes that can damage the seating taper. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new tip, as contamination will affect runout and tip retention.
