The ISCAR 5509174 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the ICP series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The drill tip is manufactured from solid carbide in grade IC908, a submicron substrate processed with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life. It carries a cutting diameter of 0.972 inches, a 140-degree included point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust force, and a slow-spiral flute geometry. At 0.551 inches in functional length and overall height, it fits into compatible ICP-series drill bodies with an insert seat size 24. The honed cutting edge finish and thinned point geometry are suited for controlled entry and exit in both through-hole and blind-hole applications.
This replaceable tip is intended for use in CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and dedicated drilling operations. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P). Secondary workpiece compatibility includes stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H), making the ICP0972 IC908 tip a versatile option across job shop and production environments. The ICP series replaceable tip system allows tip changes at the machine without removing the drill body, reducing downtime in high-volume drilling operations. Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians familiar with indexable drilling systems.
Designed for use with ICP-series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 24. ISO number ICP 247 identifies the correct body interface. Compatible primary workpiece material is steel; secondary materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials per ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Replaceable tip installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle stopped and energy isolated per applicable lockout procedures. The tip is secured via the twist-lock holding method into the ICP drill body; follow the drill body manufacturer torque and seating procedures provided with the body. Inspect the insert seat and coolant passages for debris before seating the tip. Do not exceed the cutting parameters recommended for the IC908 grade in the applicable workpiece material.
