The ISCAR 5509170 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the ICP series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. The tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade with a TiAlN PVD coating that resists heat and wear during aggressive feed rates. The cutting diameter measures 0.953 inches (61/64 inch) with a 140-degree included drill point angle and a web-thinned, honed cutting edge geometry that reduces entry thrust and improves chip evacuation. It runs two slow-spiral flutes and fits insert seat size 24. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments install and replace these tips at the machine.
The 5509170 tip is suited for drilling steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The slow-spiral flute design is particularly effective in gummy or work-hardening materials where chip control is critical. The replaceable-tip format allows the body to remain in the spindle while only the worn carbide tip is swapped, reducing changeover time on production runs. This tip conforms to ISO 13399 standards for tool data representation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement tip for ICP series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 24. ISO number ICP 242. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tool-setters following the machine tool manufacturer lockout and spindle-stop procedures before any tip change. The twist-lock interface requires correct seating torque per the drill body manufacturer specification — do not estimate torque by feel. Inspect the insert seat and bore for chips or damage before installing a new tip. Coolant-through capability should be verified against the specific drill body in use, as this tip configuration does not include independent through-coolant porting.
