The ISCAR 5509053 is a solid carbide turning insert with ISCAR grade IC807 and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It carries the WNMX insert style designation, which indicates a trigon (W) shape with an 80-degree included angle, a neutral relief angle (N), and a mid-tolerance class (M). The insert measures 8.70 mm (0.3425 inches) in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch (0.0313 inches) corner radius. The IC807 submicron carbide grade is engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. Licensed HVAC and machining tradespeople familiar with ISCAR tooling will recognize the M4M chip breaker geometry as suited for moderate feed and depth-of-cut applications.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Heliturn series and is designed for external and internal turning operations on a broad range of workpiece materials. The primary workpiece material codes listed are H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys respectively. Maximum depth of cut is 5.00 mm (0.197 inches). The insert seats via clamp and pin holding methods. It is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes where a positive rake geometry is required for clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for toolholders and boring bars accepting WNMX-style inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, P, and S per ISO 13399 classification. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as a damaged pocket will compromise cutting performance and edge life.
