The ISCAR 5508784 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. Part of the ICP-2M series, it carries the IC908 submicron carbide grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that extends tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The insert features a 140-degree drill point angle, a double margin geometry, and a slow spiral flute configuration with two flutes. The cutting diameter is 0.492 inches (12.5 mm), the functional length is 0.186 inches, and the overall height is 0.276 inches (7.01 mm). A qualified machinist or toolroom technician installs the tip into a compatible ICP-2M series drill body holder.
This replaceable tip insert is engineered primarily for drilling steel (ISO workpiece code P). Secondary workpiece material compatibility, as specified by ISCAR, extends to stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H). The double margin point type and web-thinned geometry make it suitable for accurate, stable entry in both through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations on CNC machining centers and lathes with live tooling. It is used in production and job-shop environments where consistent hole quality and fast insert changeout are priorities.
Designed for use with ICP-2M series replaceable tip drill body holders. The ISO number for this insert is ICP 125-2M. Insert seat size is 12. Verify holder series and seat size against the drill body before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before removing or installing the drill tip. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified by ISCAR for the ICP-2M holder to achieve proper seating torque — do not use substitute tools, as improper clamping can cause tip ejection during operation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or damage before seating the new tip, and confirm the tip is fully seated and locked before resuming cutting operations.
