The ISCAR 5508710 is a DNMG 331 PP indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD process with a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating system under the IC8250 grade, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability suited to demanding turning operations. The 55-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code D) and PP chip breaker geometry are engineered for controlled chip formation. The corner radius measures 0.4 mm (0.0157 inches). This insert belongs to the Isoturn series and is installed by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is primarily intended for turning stainless steel and steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M and P. The positive rake geometry and PP chip breaker work together to reduce cutting forces and manage chip evacuation in continuous and semi-interrupted cuts. The IC8250 CVD-coated grade is well suited to medium-speed finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge security and coating adhesion are critical. Maximum depth of cut is 3.0 mm (0.118 inches). Typical applications include external and internal diameter turning on production lathes running stainless and carbon steel bar stock or forgings.
Designed for use in DNMG-style insert pockets within the ISCAR Isoturn turning toolholder series. Fitment requires a toolholder accepting the DNMG 331 insert size with N clearance and M tolerance class. Verify pocket geometry and clamping style before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before handling inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's seating procedure when clamping the insert — do not overtighten or force the insert into the pocket. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
