The ISCAR 5508603 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill from the ICM series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Built to IC908 manufacturer grade using a submicron carbide substrate, this drill tip features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for enhanced wear resistance and heat tolerance at the cutting edge. The 0.724-inch (18.39 mm) cutting diameter and 140-degree included point angle make it well suited for efficient chip formation and accurate entry in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. With 2 helical flutes and a web-thinned geometry, the 5508603 is intended for installation by machinists and tool-room technicians working with precision drill bodies in the ICM 184 insert seat size family.
This replaceable tip drill is primarily targeted at stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary capability in steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H). It is suited to CNC machining centers and manual drill setups where controlled hole quality is required. The regular spiral flute configuration and standard point type support consistent chip evacuation across these material groups. Typical applications include production hole-making and general drilling operations in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking environments where tool life and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM series drill bodies accepting ISO Number ICM 184 insert seat size (18 mm seat). Compatible with drill bodies using clamp-style insert holding. Refer to ISCAR ICM body documentation to confirm body-to-tip pairing before installation.
Replaceable tip drills of this type are installed and serviced by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Before tip removal or installation, ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out per machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct ISCAR torque key or clamping tool specified for the ICM body to secure the tip — do not use substitute tools that may damage the seating surfaces. Inspect the insert pocket and coolant ports for chips or contamination before seating the new tip.
