The ISCAR 5508597 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill from the ICP series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding machining operations. The tip carries an IC908 submicron-grade carbide designation with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The drill features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point and a honed cutting edge geometry, which reduces entry thrust and improves chip evacuation. With a cutting diameter of 0.717 inches and a functional length of 0.304 inches, this insert is sized for the ICP seat size 18 system. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install these tips as replaceable inserts on compatible ICP-series drill bodies.
This replaceable tip is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. The slow-spiral flute geometry and twist-style insert holding method are optimized for stable cutting in difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. Typical applications include general-purpose CNC drilling on mills and machining centers in job shop, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing environments. The insert conforms to ISO 13399 standards for tooling data representation, making it compatible with tool management software and presetter systems used in modern shops.
Designed for use with ICP-series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting seat size 18 inserts. ISO number ICP 182 identifies the specific seat and interface geometry for proper body matching.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before replacing the tip, power down and lock out the spindle completely and allow the tool to reach ambient temperature. Use the manufacturer-recommended torx or hex key for the twist-locking insert holding method, and inspect the insert pocket seat for chips, wear, or damage before seating the new tip. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material group, as overloading a replaceable carbide tip can cause sudden fracture.
