The ISCAR 5508590 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the ICM series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. This drill carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade tip with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed drilling operations. The included point angle is 140 degrees with a web-thinned, T-Land geometry on a slow spiral, 2-flute configuration. Cutting diameter is 0.689 inches (17.5 mm) and functional length is 0.285 inches. The replaceable tip design allows quick tip changes without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing downtime in production environments. This tool is used by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC machining centers.
The 5508590 is engineered primarily for drilling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium - material groups M and S per ISO classification. Secondary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO groups P, K, and H). The ICM series slow spiral geometry reduces cutting forces and helps control chip evacuation in sticky, work-hardening materials. Insert seat size is 17, and the tool conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards, making it compatible with modern CAM and tool management systems. The 140-degree point angle limits thrust force at entry and exit, which is particularly useful in thin-wall or interrupted-cut conditions common in aerospace and medical component machining.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip insert for ISCAR ICM series drill bodies with an insert seat size of 17 and ISO number ICM 175. Consult the ISCAR ICM body selection guide to confirm body-to-tip compatibility before ordering.
Replaceable tip drills in the ICM series are installed and changed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the tip insert. Use the recommended ISCAR torque key for the twist-style insert holding method to ensure proper seating - do not substitute with general-purpose tools. Verify runout after tip installation and before initiating a cut, particularly when working with tight-tolerance bores in aerospace-grade alloys.
