The ISCAR 5508480 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding workpiece materials. This ICM-series tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and abrasive applications. The drill tip measures 0.638 inches in cutting diameter with a functional length of 0.269 inches and an overall height of 0.366 inches. The 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. Installation and replacement are handled by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC turning, machining center, or dedicated drill press setups.
This replaceable tip is intended for use in ISCAR ICM-series modular drill bodies with a 16 mm insert seat. Primary target materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, which align with ISO workpiece material codes M and S. Secondary applications include steel, cast iron, and hard materials under ISO codes P, K, and H. The slow-spiral, T-Land geometry with a two-flute configuration supports chip evacuation in these tough-to-machine materials. It is suited for precision hole-making in aerospace, medical, and energy-sector components where material removal rate and hole quality are both critical.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM-series modular drill bodies accepting a size-16 insert seat. ISO number reference: ICM 162. Verify seat size and series compatibility with the drill body before ordering.
Replaceable tip drills of this type are installed and serviced by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. The drill body must be fully de-energized and the spindle locked before tip removal or installation. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench or key when seating the tip to ensure proper clamping without damaging the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before fitting a new tip.
