The ISCAR 5508473 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. This tip is part of the ICP series and carries the IC908 manufacturer grade, manufactured from submicron solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended tool life and heat resistance. The cutting diameter measures 0.638 inches, the functional length is 0.269 inches, and the overall height is 0.366 inches. The 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point reduces entry forces and improves centering accuracy. With a slow spiral, 2-flute configuration and honed cutting edge style, this tip delivers consistent chip evacuation in steel and similar workpiece materials.
This replaceable tip drill insert is suited for CNC machining centers and turning centers where frequent tip replacement is preferred over full tool discard. Its primary workpiece material designation is steel (ISO material code P), with secondary suitability for stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO codes M, K, S, H). The ICP series insert seat size is 16, corresponding to ISO number ICP 162. This tip is a direct replacement component for ICP-style drill bodies used in production and job-shop environments where tool change speed and repeatability matter.
Designed as a replaceable tip for ICP-series drill bodies with insert seat size 16, corresponding to ISO number ICP 162. Compatible primary workpiece material is steel; secondary materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials per ISO material codes M, K, S, and H.
Installation of replaceable tip drills should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. The drill body must be free of chips and contamination at the seating surface before the tip is seated and secured. Follow the tool body manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping mechanism to avoid tip damage or runout issues. Do not exceed the cutting parameters established for the IC908 grade and TiAlN coating in the applicable machining data reference.
