The ISCAR 5508453 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICP series, designed to mount into compatible ICP drill bodies for precision hole-making in metalworking applications. The insert carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, grade IC908 with a submicron carbide substrate. It features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point and a honed cutting edge geometry. Cutting diameter is 0.622 inches, functional length is 0.248 inches, and overall height is 0.344 inches. The two-flute slow spiral design suits controlled chip evacuation in steel and hard materials. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and tool-room technicians on CNC and manual drilling platforms.
The 5508453 is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. The ICP series replaceable tip system allows quick tip changes without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing changeover time in production and job-shop environments. The slow spiral flute type and thinned web point support stable entry and reduced thrust force in through-hole and blind-hole drilling scenarios on vertical machining centers and drill presses.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ICP series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 15, ISO number ICP 158. Confirm body seat size and series match before ordering.
Installation of replaceable tip drill inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist following the drill body manufacturer's torque and seating procedure. Ensure the spindle is stopped and the machine is in a safe lockout state before changing any cutting insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or damage before seating the new insert. Follow applicable shop safety practices and the tool manufacturer's handling guidelines for carbide inserts.
