The ISCAR 5508438 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICM series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding industrial and machining applications. The insert carries the IC908 manufacturer grade, produced from a submicron solid carbide substrate and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. It features a 0.587 inch cutting diameter, a 140-degree included point angle, and a thinned web geometry for reduced thrust forces at entry. The slow spiral, two-flute design promotes chip evacuation while the T-Land style edge improves edge stability during interrupted or tough-material cuts. Licensed machinists and tool-room professionals install and rotate these tips as part of a modular drill body system.
This replaceable drill tip is engineered for primary use in stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups M and S. Secondary applications include steel, cast iron, and hard materials, covering ISO groups P, K, and H. The ICM series modular platform allows rapid tip changeovers at the machine without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing downtime in production environments such as aerospace component machining, heavy equipment manufacturing, and precision job shops.
Designed as a replaceable tip for ISCAR ICM series modular drill bodies using insert seat size 14, ISO number ICM 149. Confirm body series and seat size before ordering to ensure proper fitment.
Replaceable carbide drill tips must be seated and torqued into a compatible modular drill body by a qualified machinist following the drill body manufacturer's instructions. Power down the spindle and secure the workpiece before tip removal or installation. Do not strike or pry the insert during removal, as solid carbide is brittle and may fracture. Follow the machine tool builder's guidelines for spindle speeds and feed rates appropriate to the workpiece material group.
