The ISCAR 5508402 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for use in ISCAR ICP-series modular drill bodies. Identified by tip designation ICP0543 and manufactured in grade IC908, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. It cuts at a 0.543-inch diameter with a 140-degree drill point angle and a honed cutting edge geometry. The slow spiral, two-flute design with web thinning reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. At 0.055 pounds, this insert is a lightweight, precision-ground component installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC and conventional drilling operations.
This replaceable tip insert is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. It also performs in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ICP series modular design allows the tip to be swapped at the machine without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing changeover time in production environments. The IC908 submicron carbide grade and TiAlN coating support higher cutting speeds and extended tool life in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP-series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size 13 and ISO number ICP 138. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), super-alloys and titanium (ISO S), and hard materials (ISO H).
Installation of replaceable carbide tip inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the drill body and spindle are fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing the insert. Clean the insert seat and mating surfaces before seating the new tip to prevent premature wear or tip failure. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque and seating procedure as specified in the tool body documentation.
