The ISCAR 5508397 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for use in ICP-series modular drill bodies. Manufactured to IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent cutting performance in demanding metalworking operations. It features a 0.524-inch cutting diameter, a 140-degree included point angle, a honed cutting edge style, and a slow-spiral flute geometry. Web thinning at the tip reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation at entry. The insert seats into size-13 ICP drill bodies and is held in place by a twist-lock mechanism. It is handled by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC and manual drilling setups.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering a broad range of industrial and precision machining applications. The IC908 grade with submicron carbide substrate and TiAlN finish performs well at moderate-to-high cutting speeds where heat resistance and edge retention are critical. Typical applications include production drilling in aerospace, general metalworking, die and mold, and heavy equipment fabrication environments.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ICP-series modular drill bodies accepting a size-13 insert seat. ISO number ICP 133 as specified by the manufacturer. Verify seat size and ISO number against your drill body specification before ordering.
Installation and removal of replaceable tip drill inserts should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out. Use the appropriate torque key or wrench specified for the ICP series body to engage the twist-lock mechanism without over-torquing the insert seat. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or damage before each insert change. Do not force a misaligned insert into the pocket, as this can damage the locating geometry and compromise runout.
