The ISCAR 5508350 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the ICM series, designed for precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Manufactured to grade IC908 using a submicron solid carbide substrate, this tip features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for extended wear resistance and heat tolerance at the cutting edge. The included angle is 140 degrees with a web-thinned, T-Land point geometry and slow spiral fluting to manage chip evacuation in tough materials. It is installed and replaced by machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC machining centers and drill press setups.
This replaceable tip is engineered for primary use in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, with secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, and hard materials. The slow spiral flute design and web-thinned point reduce cutting forces in high-strength and gummy materials where chip control and edge integrity are critical. It is suited to production drilling environments where tip replacement rather than full tool replacement reduces tooling cost and downtime. The ICM series insert geometry and twist-holding method provide positive seating in compatible ICM drill bodies.
Designed for use with compatible ICM series replaceable tip drill bodies. Insert seat size is 9; ISO tool number is ICM 092. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium. Secondary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and hard materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following the drill body manufacturer's tip-seating procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or installing the tip insert. Use the correct torque tool as specified by the drill body manufacturer for the twist-locking interface — do not substitute wrench types. Inspect the insert seat on the drill body for chips or contamination before seating a new tip.
