The ISCAR 5508292 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the ICP series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The tip is manufactured from submicron solid carbide in IC908 grade and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, delivering heat resistance and edge retention in demanding drilling operations. It features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned point and a honed cutting edge geometry for stable entry and reduced thrust. The 0.457-inch cutting diameter and slow spiral flute design make it well suited for controlled chip evacuation. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling specialists in CNC machining centers.
The ICP0457 tip is used in drilling applications across precision machining environments, including aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking. Its primary workpiece material is steel, with secondary compatibility spanning stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The tip mounts to an ICP-series modular drill body and is held in place by a twist-locking mechanism. It is appropriate for both job shop and production environments where replaceable-tip tooling is preferred over full solid carbide drills for cost-of-ownership reasons.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP-series modular drill bodies accepting an insert seat size 11. Compatible with ICP-series holders per ISO number ICP 116. Verify holder compatibility before ordering.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the drill body and tip seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the tip. Use the appropriate ISCAR torque key to engage the twist-lock mechanism to the manufacturer-specified position — do not over-torque or use improvised tools. Inspect the tip seat and locking feature for wear at each tool change to maintain runout accuracy.
