The ISCAR 5508291 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip designed for use with compatible ICP-series modular drill bodies. With a cutting diameter of 0.4531 inches (29/64 inch, 11.51 mm) and a 140-degree included point angle, this tip is engineered for precise hole-making in demanding materials. The tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which together support extended tool life at higher cutting speeds. The ICP insert geometry features a web-thinned design and a regular helical flute profile with two flutes. It fits an insert seat size 11 and meets ISO 13399 standards. Licensed trades and precision machine operators rely on this style of tip for consistent, repeatable bore entry with a modular tooling system.
This replaceable tip is suited for hole-making operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. Secondary materials include stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Typical applications include drilling, chamfering, and gundrilling in production machining environments. The short, rigid tip geometry supports accurate entry in both CNC machining centers and manual setups where tool deflection must be minimized. This tip does not include internal coolant-through capability, so external coolant or flood cooling is the standard approach for chip evacuation and heat management.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP-series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size 11 and ISO number ICP 115, as specified by the manufacturer. Verify seat size and ISO number against the drill body before installation.
Replaceable drill tips of this type are installed and removed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician using the clamping mechanism on the ICP drill body. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing the tip. Seat surfaces on both the tip and the body should be clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Follow the tool manufacturer torque and clamping procedure for the specific drill body to avoid premature tip movement or body damage.
