The ISCAR 5508290 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Carrying the IC908 manufacturer grade and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge stability in demanding cutting environments. It features a 0.449-inch cutting diameter, a 140-degree drill point angle, and a slow spiral flute configuration with a honed cutting edge. The thinned web geometry reduces thrust force at entry. This insert seats into compatible ICP-series drill bodies and is installed by licensed machinists and toolroom professionals in CNC and manual drilling setups.
The 5508290 is built for drilling steel as its primary workpiece material, with a submicron carbide grade that also supports use in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is well suited to production drilling in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments where replaceable-tip tooling reduces downtime compared to solid drill replacement. The ICP series system uses a twist insert-holding method, allowing quick tip changes without removing the drill body from the spindle.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ICP-series drill body systems, insert seat size 11, ISO number ICP 114. Compatible primary workpiece material is steel; secondary materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the drill body manufacturer's torque and seating procedures for ICP-series replaceable tip systems. Ensure the drill body and spindle are fully stopped and the machine is locked out before tip replacement. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new tip. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the IC908 grade as specified in the tooling manufacturer's application data.
