The ISCAR 5508176 is a WNMG431GN-geometry turning insert in the Isoturn series, manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating. It carries an IC8150 manufacturer grade and is designed for indexable turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape, a neutral 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N), and an M-tolerance classification. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it is suited for medium to semi-finish turning applications. Qualified machinists and CNC setup technicians install this insert into compatible WNMG-style toolholders as a consumable cutting edge.
This insert is intended for turning cast iron and steel workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes K and P. The GN chip breaker geometry is optimized for these material groups, supporting controlled chip formation across a range of cutting parameters. It is applicable in general-purpose turning operations in production machining, job shop, and maintenance environments. The maximum depth of cut is 4.50 mm (0.177 inches), placing it in a medium-cut application range rather than heavy roughing or mirror-finish work.
Designed for use in WNMG-style indexable turning toolholders that accept a clamp-and-pin holding method with a neutral clearance (N) seat. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO code K) and steel (ISO code P).
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC technicians following standard indexable tooling procedures. The machine spindle must be stopped and all axes locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder to ensure proper seating; do not over-tighten the clamp screw by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for chips or debris before seating a new insert edge.
