The ISCAR 5508174 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the IC8150 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, delivering thermal resistance and wear protection across a broad range of cutting conditions. The trigon insert shape provides an 80-degree included angle, giving the cutting edge strength and versatility. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for medium-duty material removal passes where edge sharpness and coating durability are both critical factors.
This insert belongs to the Isoturn series and is engineered for turning cast iron and steel workpieces, covering ISO material codes K and P. It is appropriate for use in production turning environments including automotive component machining, general machining shops, and job shops running high-volume steel and cast iron parts. The TF chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, helping manage chip formation during continuous turning passes. It is held in the toolholder using a clamp and pin method, compatible with standard WNMG toolholder pockets with an N clearance angle and M tolerance class.
Designed for use in standard WNMG toolholder pockets with N clearance angle and M tolerance class. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO material code K) and steel (ISO material code P), as specified in the product data. Compatible with toolholders accepting inserts within the Isoturn series configuration.
Installation of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked before changing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Verify the clamp and pin are properly torqued according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications before resuming cutting operations. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for the insert grade and chip breaker geometry in use.
