The ISCAR 5508169 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG2.51NF geometry, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC8150 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiCN, Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The insert measures 12.4 mm in length with an inscribed circle of 0.2815 inches and a corner radius of 0.0157 inches. Its 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and negative side clearance make it well suited for finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish consistency are required. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install and index this insert type.
This insert is intended for finishing applications on steel (ISO P), cast iron (ISO K), and hardened materials (ISO H). The NF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light, finishing-depth cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 2.00 mm (0.0787 inches). It is used on external turning, facing, and profiling operations where workpiece surface integrity and dimensional accuracy are the primary goals. The IC8150 grade offers high wear resistance for steel and cast iron, transitioning toward moderate toughness where conditions require it, making it a versatile finishing-grade choice across common production materials.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts with a 2.5-1 ANSI size code and ISO size code 12T304. Part of the ISCAR Isoturn series. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the turret or toolholder. Use the appropriate torque driver or clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification to secure the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
