The ISCAR 5508147 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG 331-NF geometry, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which builds heat resistance and wear resistance across a wide range of cutting conditions. The 35-degree diamond shape (V) provides a sharp, strong cutting edge suited to profiling and finishing passes. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert is built for tight-tolerance work where surface finish and dimensional accuracy matter. Machinists and CNC operators install these inserts in compatible toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is intended for machining stainless steel and steel workpieces, covering ISO material codes M and P. It fits within the Isoturn series and is well suited to finishing and semi-finishing applications in both production and job-shop environments. The NF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to moderate depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.098 inches (2.49 mm). The boring application is also supported, making this a multi-use insert across turning center setups. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders compatible with the Isoturn series. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the ISCAR Isoturn catalog using ISO code VNMG 331-NF. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screws specified for the toolholder - do not overtighten or use improvised tools, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker pocket for debris before seating the new insert.
