The ISCAR 5508131 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG332GN geometry, grade IC8250, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert carries a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The 60-degree triangular shape, combined with a 0.0313-inch corner radius and a neutral 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N), makes this insert well suited for medium to finish turning passes. Machinists and CNC programmers working with steel and stainless steel workpieces will find this insert a direct fit for standard TNMG toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series, which targets turning applications across a broad range of workpiece materials. It is rated for primary workpiece material codes P and M, covering carbon and alloy steels as well as stainless steels. The GN chip breaker geometry is intended for general turning and light to medium cutting conditions. The insert fits standard TNMG-style toolholders and is compatible with clamp-and-pin holding systems commonly found in production turning environments in both job shops and high-volume machining cells.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TNMG332-style toolholders that accept clamp or pin holding, within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against the TNMG insert style and 3/8-inch inscribed circle before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert, and confirm correct insert orientation for the intended cutting direction.
