The ISCAR 5508118 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying manufacturer part number LNMX150616RHT in the IC8250 grade. It features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous turning operations. The insert measures 15.00 mm in length with a 0.0625-inch corner radius and a 90-degree rectangular shape (shape code L). Maximum depth of cut is 8.00 mm. The HT chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle promote efficient chip flow and reduced cutting forces. Licensed CNC machinists and turning center operators install this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for right-hand cutting direction and is held in place by a screw-clamp method. The Heliturn series designation indicates suitability for helical interpolation and high-feed turning strategies. Primary workpiece material classification is ISO P (steels), with secondary suitability for ISO M (stainless steels). It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where the 8.00 mm maximum depth of cut and HT chip breaker geometry can be fully utilized. The IC8250 grade is formulated for steel and stainless steel turning where PVD coating longevity is a priority.
Designed for use in ISCAR Heliturn series toolholders configured for LNMX-style inserts with screw-clamp retention. Compatible toolholders must accept an LNMX insert shape with a 15.00 mm insert length and clearance code N. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver or T-key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp screw — do not over-tighten, as this can crack the insert or damage the pocket seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket for debris, wear, or damage before seating a new insert.
